Critiques
I feel that there are some interesting color choices and shapes going on here. When I look at the painting, for some reason the word "flesh" comes to mind immediately - even the first time I saw it, that is what I thought of. Also, it reminds me of blood and tissue, and maybe intestines. I don't know, but it does give a sort of queasy, uneasy feeling, yet at the same time it's lovely.
Because it is so subjective, I find abstract expressionism to be one of the most difficult of all art styles to critique intelligently.
A great deal of the effectiveness of this style lies in the title. Your title "So Hurt Me" appeals instantly to my taste for the dramatic. The reds and flesh tones at once convey a feeling of rawness, anger and eroticism, so I gave you 5 stars for impact.
Both color and drawing composition are well balanced, the strokes are made boldly and with authority laid down the first time without erasing. So how else does one judge technique on a work such as this? I took off a half star only because I feel the whites could have been worked a little more, yet who knows? Working them more may have resulted in 'overworking' and lessoned the impact.
Abstract Expressionism is done so much these days, it makes a category like 'originality' difficult to assess. On the one hand, ALL abstract expressionism is original, on the other hand, there's not a whole lot innovative about it any more, so 4 stars is the highest rating I will give in the category of 'originality' for a work done in this genre.
I haven't a clue as to what "vision" is supposed to mean. Overall, I find this painting to be highly effective, so it more than likely rates highly in this category as well.
